Osun 2026: Accord party’s assailants shot at us in Osogbo, victims narrate ordeal

…as Oyebamiji visits targets, donates cash gifts
…pays over N4m medical bills of accident survivors
The political crisis in Osun state took another dimension as victims named Taoreed Mustapha and Ayoola Idowu narrated their ordeals in the hands of the suspected political hoodlums loyal to the ruling Accord Party in the state who shot at them in Osogbo in the early hours of Saturday.
The victims who were brutally attacked and shot on their legs and thighs called on well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid by providing adequate security for them and their families.
This is just as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) paid separate visits to the gunshot victims at the hospitals in Osogbo.
Oyebamiji donated substantial cash gifts to the gunshot victims and equally offset over 4million naira medical bills of accident victims met in the hospital.
Narrating their ordeals, one of the victims, Mr. Taoreed Mustapha popularly called Faronbi who said he was attacked at the front of his father’s house on Saturday by assailants loyal to the ruling party, Accord Party, called on well meaning Nigerians to come to his aid.
According to him, the attack was deliberate and purposefully carried out to terminate his life as the attackers were shouting his name immediately they saw him at the front of his father’s house.
“I am Taoreed Mustapha. I was sitting on my own at the front of my father’s house around 6:30am to 7:30am at Olu-ode Aranyin, Ita-Olokan area, Osogbo this morning where I saw some armed political thugs on motorcycles and one Sienna bus (ash colour vehicle).
“Immediately they saw me, they started shouting (that is the guy! That is the guy). That was all I heard when they started spraying bullets at me. But I realized that since I decamped from Accord party to APC, they have been trailing my life. Please, help me. Don’t let them kill me. Those that came to attack me are members of Accord Party. I know two of them. One is called Ayo popularly known as “assassin” and the other one is Saheed. I don’t know his nick name.
“They dispossessed me of all my personal belongings. I want to appeal to government and well meaning Nigerians to support me and provide adequate security and protection for me and my family”, he narrated.
Another victim, Ayoola Idowu, who claimed to have been attacked around Gbonmi, Okebaale Area, Osogbo this morning, recalled how political miscreants allegedly loyal to Accord Party waylaid him and shot at him.
Idowu claimed that the suspected political hoodlums shot at him on the thigh and went away after which he was rushed to the hospital.
“I was going on my lawful business this morning along Gbonmi Okebaale Area where I saw some guys, fully armed on bike. They started shooting sporadically and they shot me on my thigh and immediately they did that, they ran away while shooting.
” I am not a politician. I am just a voter. Although, I do cast vote for APC, I have never participated in politics. I just like voting for progressive party. So, I don’t know what I did to them that could warrant this. I thank God they rushed me to the hospital where I am currently receiving treatment”, Idowu narrated.
Speaking during the visit to the hospitals, Oyebamiji expressed displeasure over the incessant attacks and pocket of violence in the state.
He condemned in its entirety the act of hooliganism and political thuggery saying it is criminal for anyone to attack or kill fellow human being for whatever reason.
“This is callous. This is criminal. We are a peaceful political party. That is what sets us apart from the violent Accord party. We should not do violence for violence. We should continue to encourage peaceful co-existence. I want to sincerely appeal to our people that this is just about an election. This is not a war. We should go into this election with peaceful mind.
“My name is Bola Oyebamiji. I am the APC governorship candidate. I condemn this heinous act totally. I want to appeal to the people of Osun that it is important that we should encourage peace and peaceful living. There is no reason for us to go into an election and start killing our people and I want to appeal to the Osun State Commissioner of police to work very hard to unravel this.
“Enough is enough. We don’t encourage killings in our state. Our state has been a state of virtue and it is a state that even throughout the country has been awarded one of the most peaceful states in the country. I condemn this and I am appealing to our people to be calm. There is no reason for us to attack anyone.
“We are from Osun and it is important that we know that killing of any human being is criminal offense and whoever is caught will face the wraths of the law”, Oyebamiji stated.
Also, the Director General, Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon Oluwole Oke expressed sadness over the incessant political violence in the state.
APC Campaign DG accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of incompetence to govern the state, saying Adeleke’s government has failed the people of the state and must be ready to vacate office.
Hon. Oke who appealed to the security agencies to unravel the incident and bring the perpetrators to book said it is unfortunate that the people of the state can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed under the Adeleke’s government.
Oke said: “It is very disheartening. Very unpleasant and this is alien to our culture. As citizens of Osun State, this has to stop. We call on security agencies to look into this.
Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate put smiles into the face of the family of the accident victims who are currently receiving treatment at one of the hospitals visited, as Oyebamiji paid their over 4million naira medical bills.
The family of the victims who came out of the emergency unit of the hospital upon sighting Oyebamiji and his entourage in sorrow, bursted into tears on their inability to pay the charged medical bills.
However, after explaining the incident and their financial constraints, Oyebamiji ordered the immediate payment of the bills and asked the family to relate with one of his aides for further support.
The benefiting family members went into jubilations as they were seen rolling on the floors to thank God and Oyebamiji for the kind gesture.
