Farmers and other stakeholders in Ila Federal Constituency have reaffirmed their support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The commitment was expressed during the Ila Federal Constituency Farmers Congress and the inauguration of the executive of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in the constituency.

The event, held at the residence of former Osun State Governor and APC chieftain, Chief Adebisi Akande, brought together farmers, agricultural stakeholders, APC leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders from across the federal constituency.

The gathering provided an avenue for farmers to discuss issues affecting the agricultural sector, strengthen their organisation and mobilise support for AMBO and his running mate, Engr. Benjamin Kayode Adereti, ahead of the governorship election.

As part of the agricultural intervention at the event, farm implements, pesticides and fertilisers were provided to various farming group leaders for distribution to their members. The provision of the agricultural inputs was sponsored by the Campaign Committee of the Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency as part of its support for farmers and agricultural development in the constituency.

The intervention was welcomed by the farmers, who expressed appreciation for the agricultural inputs, describing the gesture as a practical step towards supporting farmers, improving productivity and strengthening agricultural activities across the constituency.

Speaking at the farmers’ congress, foremost APC leader and former National Secretary of the party, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, charged farmers and other stakeholders to support AMBO and his running mate in the August 15 governorship election.

Omisore urged the farmers to remain united and participate actively in the electoral process, stressing the importance of supporting a government committed to agriculture, rural development and the welfare of farming communities.

He encouraged the farmers to use their votes to advance their interests and support candidates they believe have the capacity to provide policies and programmes capable of transforming the agricultural sector and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The mobilisation of farmers for the APC candidate was undertaken by the Ila Federal Constituency Campaign Committee in collaboration with AFAN, providing an opportunity for farmers to interact with APC leaders and reaffirm their commitment to the AMBO/Adereti ticket.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the Ila Federal Constituency Campaign Council, Dr. Adebisi Obawale, described AMBO’s background as a farmer as an important advantage in understanding the realities confronting farmers in Osun State.

Dr. Obawale said AMBO’s experience as a farmer gives him first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by people in the agricultural sector and positions him to govern with a better understanding of the needs of farmers.

According to him, an AMBO-led administration would be favourably disposed towards policies and programmes that would improve farmers’ welfare, enhance agricultural productivity, expand access to agricultural inputs and create greater opportunities for people engaged in farming.

He noted that agriculture remains critical to the economic development of Osun State and called on farmers across Ila Federal Constituency to support AMBO as a candidate capable of giving greater attention to the sector.

The occasion also witnessed the inauguration of the AFAN executive in Ila Federal Constituency, marking a new phase in the organisation and coordination of farmers in the constituency.

Various APC leaders, party faithful and stakeholders who attended the programme also expressed their support for the agricultural initiative and the AMBO/Adereti candidacy.

Among the party leaders in attendance were Mr. Richard Tinubu, Professor Wuraola Akande and other notable APC chieftains and party faithful from across the Ila Federal Constituency.

The presence of the party leaders further underscored the importance attached to the farmers’ congress and the ongoing grassroots mobilisation for the APC ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

After the programme, palliatives were distributed to members of the community as part of efforts to provide immediate support to beneficiaries and complement the agricultural intervention provided during the event.

Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated AFAN executive would strengthen the association, promote unity among farmers and provide a stronger platform for advancing the interests of farming communities.

The farmers also highlighted the need for greater access to agricultural inputs, improved farming equipment, extension services, better rural infrastructure, access to finance and other interventions capable of boosting agricultural production.

Party leaders and other stakeholders who spoke at the gathering emphasised the importance of agriculture to the development of Osun State, noting that deliberate investment in farmers would contribute to food security, employment creation and improved economic opportunities for rural communities.

The event therefore served both as a platform for strengthening the farmers’ association and as an avenue for political engagement ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with participants reiterating their support for AMBO and expressing their readiness to mobilise voters across the Ila Federal Constituency for the APC candidate.
