Canadian Woman Arrested for Drug Smuggling at Lagos Airport

A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to smuggle a large shipment of “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of synthetic cannabis.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi shared details of the arrest in a statement on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, during the customs check of passengers arriving on a KLM flight from Canada.
While inspecting her three bags, officials discovered 74 parcels of the illegal substance, totaling 35.20 kilograms, concealed within two of the bags.
In her confession, Munju stated that she was recruited through an online platform to transport the drugs for a payment of 10,000 Canadian dollars upon arrival in Lagos. She claimed she accepted the offer to finance her ongoing master’s degree in Canada.
