Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Tipper on Anambra Road

On Thursday, a motorcyclist, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was killed in a collision with a fully loaded tipper along the Nteje-Umueri junction of the Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra State. The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. and involved a commercial Mercedes Tipper with the registration number XA158ZT and a motorcycle with no visible registration.
Initial reports suggest that the crash was caused by improper overtaking. Witnesses noted that the motorcyclist lost control while attempting to overtake the tipper, resulting in a fall and subsequent impact with the tipper.
Local residents have expressed concerns about the Nteje area of the expressway, citing a recent surge in road accidents and fatalities.
According to reports, the accident involved four individuals: three men and one woman. One man was killed, one woman was injured, and two men were unharmed. The deceased was reportedly taken by family members to the Aguleri community.
Margaret Onabe, Acting Sector Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident. She reported that before the FRSC rescue team arrived, the DTO team from Oyi Division was already on-site. The tipper driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle abandoned. Efforts are underway to tow the vehicle, while the police continue their investigation.
FRSC Sector Commander for Anambra State, Joyce Nnenaya Alexander, extended her condolences to the victim’s family and advised motorists to ensure the road is clear before overtaking and to remain vigilant while driving.
