Police Arrest Four Suspects in Lagos with Stolen Vehicle and Firearms

Police

The Inspector General of Police Response Team (IRT) from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Ikoyi, Lagos, has apprehended a four-man robbery gang in Ikorodu. The suspects are accused of hijacking a Toyota Sienna and stealing an iPhone 12 from their victims in the Gbaga area of Ikorodu.

The arrested individuals are Ishola Obaro Sunday, 24; Samuel Junior, 21; Idris Akeem, 21; and Mudashiru Jelili, 21. According to police reports, the incident occurred on July 16, 2024, around 10:30 PM when the suspects ambushed the victim at Gbaga. They fired shots into the air to intimidate bystanders, forcibly removed the car owner from his vehicle, and stole both the car and the iPhone before fleeing the scene.

A concerned citizen alerted the IRT, who quickly responded and pursued the suspects. Through coordinated intelligence efforts, the police located and apprehended the suspects at a hideout in Ikorodu, recovering the stolen vehicle and phone. Additionally, two locally made pistols were seized from the suspects.

The suspects face charges of armed robbery in the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, under a two-count charge. Police Counsel Amedu Adoga informed the court that the suspects committed the robbery on July 16, 2024, in Ikorodu, and that their actions are punishable under sections 411 and 297(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Since the court does not have jurisdiction over robbery cases, Magistrate B.A. Sonuga has directed that the case file be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos for further legal review. The case has been adjourned pending legal advice.
