See What Ondo State Governor, Lucky Did To 40 Prisoners To Celebrate His 60th Years Birthday

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has granted clemency to 40 inmates in celebration of his 60th birthday. The decision followed recommendations from the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, as confirmed by Kayode Ajulo, the Commissioner for Justice.

Ajulo highlighted that this act of mercy reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s deep commitment to offering grace and compassion, aligning with his administration’s broader efforts to reform the justice sector.

In a separate statement issued by the governor’s chief press secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, it was emphasized that the pardon reflects Aiyedatiwa’s focus on rehabilitation and second chances. Adeniyan noted that this gesture underscores the governor’s focus on a justice system that prioritizes reform over punishment.

Among the beneficiaries, 15 prisoners will be released starting January 12, 2025. Additionally, some death sentences have been commuted to life imprisonment, while others will see their sentences reduced, offering hope for reintegration into society.

Adeniyan also clarified that the decision was made in line with Section 212 (1)(2) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended.
