Latest news: Dujon Sterling injury update emerges ahead of …

Dujon Sterling has been spotted in training ahead of the Rangers v Dynamo Kyiv UEFA Champions League qualifier.

According to an image shared by the Scottish Sun on 5 August, Philippe Clement has received a “major” injury boost as Sterling, who missed the Hearts clash over the weekend is set to be in contention to take on the Ukrainian side.

Gers are set to take on Dynamo Kyiv at Arena Lublin on 6 August and the 24-year-old could make his first appearance of the season.

Dujon Sterling expected to be the first-choice right-back for Rangers

Sterling’s potential return to fitness ahead of the qualifier against Kyiv is a significant boost for the team.

The 24-year-old’s inclusion in the squad could see him take up the right-back position, especially given the recent defensive struggles of captain James Tavernier, who has been linked with an exit. [David Edgar]

Tavernier, despite his attacking prowess, has faced criticism for his defensive performances, prompting calls for a more defensively solid option.

Sterling, known for his versatility and defensive capabilities, could offer a solution to Rangers’ defensive woes.
His potential start in the upcoming game against Dynamo Kyiv or the subsequent league game would not only address the team’s immediate defensive needs but also provide a long-term solution for the right-back position.

This could potentially see Tavernier move into a more advanced role or provide rotation options, ensuring a more balanced and competitive squad.

In other Rangers news, the club’s board may now push to sign a striker that Philippe Clement does not admire.
