2026: Forum Of Osun APC Former Legislators Passes A Vote Of Confidence On CP Gotan

…Charges Gov Adeleke To Handover Criminal Suspects Allegedly Harbours In Govt House To Security Agents
The Forum of Osun APC Former Legislators on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan for his high sense of professionalism, diligence and professional conducts since his deployment to the state.
The ex lawmakers charged Governor Ademola Adeleke to handover criminal suspects allegedly harboured in the state government house to security operatives for thorough investigation without further delay.
The former legislators unveiled the alleged criminal suspects including Olalekan Ajagungbade popularly called “Emir Ajagungbade”, Nurudeen Alowonle, Jide Jọda and other alleged murderers and criminal suspects who have been declared wanted by the police but kept by the incumbent Governor at government house to evade arrest and prosecution.
The former legislators made the statements at a press conference addressed by the immediate past Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Timothy Owoeye held in Osogbo.
Addressing the media, the erstwhile lawmakers said it is imperative for Governor Adeleke to desist from act capable of plunging Osun into chaos, stressing that “it is criminal for anyone, not even a sitting Governor, to shield criminals from being arrested for procedural investigations”.
The Forum expressed surprise over the resistance of the state government and its machineries to secure the redeployment of the CP querying why a sitting government would be hellbent in removing a “workaholic and highly professional” police officer.
“This Forum of Former Legislators has received credible reports of a backdoor campaign and manoeuvres by the Governor Ademola Government to secure the removal of the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, over his commitment to professional policing and the fight against criminality.
“We are deeply concerned by reports suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke and some individuals within the state government are dissatisfied with the activities of the Commissioner of Police because of his determination to enforce the law without fear or favour.
According to the Forum, CP Ibrahim Gotan has demonstrated professionalism, neutrality, courage and commitment to the protection of lives and property since his deployment to the state.
“Under his leadership, the Police Command has intensified operations against criminal gangs, cult groups and other security threats across the state. It is difficult to understand why any government would be uncomfortable with a police commissioner who is diligently carrying out his constitutional duties and working tirelessly to make communities safer”, the Forum queried.
The erstwhile lawmakers frowned at the persistent allegations in the public domain regarding the activities of officials of the Osun State Government and individuals linked to political interests within the state, adding that public concern was recently heightened by a viral video showing one Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, within the premises of the Osun State Government House directing suspicious-looking individuals around the facility.
According to the Forum, the video generated widespread concern because of existing allegations linking him and others to the recruitment and mobilisation of political thugs ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“The rule of law requires that no individual, regardless of status or political affiliation, should be above scrutiny where legitimate security concerns exist, and professional policing must never become a casualty of partisan politics.
“Politicians should face politics while the police should be allowed to face the business of professional policing and as such, the security agencies must be allowed to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation, interference or pressure from any quarter”, the Forum stated.
The former lawmakers urged the Inspector General of Police, Director General, Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Civil Defence Corps and other relevant agencies to immediately investigate the disturbing reports and take proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“We therefore call on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu to resist any pressure aimed at influencing operational decisions within the Nigeria Police Force for partisan considerations. The intention of the state government is to remove professional security agents so they can have a free day to unleash their political bandits and janjaweed on our members.
“We further wish to alert security agencies to intelligence available to our Forum indicating a coordinated plot to unleash violence against members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress across Osun State. Intelligence available to us indicates that certain groups popularly referred to as Accord Area Boys have been empowered today with motorcycles to enhance their mobility and operational capacity.
“We are concerned that such empowerment may be connected to plans to intimidate, harass and attack members and supporters of our party.
“Information available to us indicates that Dr. Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, some days ago released a new white Toyota Hilux vehicle to the controversial Amotekun Commandant in the state, Mr Adekunle Omoyele.
“We call on security agencies to investigate the purpose for which the vehicle was released and whether it is connected to ongoing political activities in the state. We have also received intelligence reports that Ezekiel Olagoke, popularly known as Ezekiel Oba, from Offa in Kwara State, alongside other associates, arrived in Osogbo this afternoon.
“We are informed that Ezekiel Olagoke currently serves as a Special Assistant on Internal Security Matters to Governor Ademola Adeleke and has long been associated with political violence and the sponsorship of cult-related activities. Security agencies should immediately investigate these reports and monitor all individuals whose activities may constitute a threat to public peace.
“We have also been informed of a secret meeting held yesterday night at Blue and White Roof Hotel in the Oke Oniti area where plans were discussed on how to attack commercial tricycle operators displaying campaign materials associated with our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO. We urge security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the meeting and take necessary preventive measures.
“We also urge Governor Ademola Adeleke to publicly demonstrate his commitment to peace and democratic values by distancing his administration from any individual or group associated with violence, intimidation or political thuggery”, the Forum stated.
